Tuesday, 19 March 2019

Bridgestone has announced their presence at the Special Olympics World Games 2019 through the activation of the ‘Bridgestone Tyre Challenge’ – an endurance activity where participants go through an obstacle course racing against the clock. The Special Olympics World Games 2019 is taking place in Abu Dhabi and will run until March 21st, 2019.

Salah Adib, General Manager, Al Masaood TBA Division, said: “We are very excited about Abu Dhabi hosting the Special Olympics World Games. The event is of great significance as it is taking place in the Middle East for the very first time and everyone at Al Masaood is looking forward to contributing to its enormous success. Bridgestone will be holding an exclusive booth at the Games to accommodate the Bridgestone Tyre Challenge – an activity reminiscent of the sporting extravaganza’s core principals. Participants’ time around the course will be recorded as they compete against each other, with each person receiving a Polaroid picture on an Olympics podium upon completing the challenge.”

Al Masaood Tyres, Batteries and Accessories (TBA) Division is the distributor of the full range of Bridgestone tyres for cars, trucks, industrial, agricultural and earth mover vehicles in Abu Dhabi – winning the GCC Distributor of the Year from Bridgestone Corporation on multiple occasions.

Commenting on the occasion, Berna Akinci, Head of Marketing, Bridgestone Middle East & Africa said: “We’re very proud of our participation at the Special Olympics World Games 2019 with our partners Al Masaood here today. The UAE has made great strides in establishing systems that empower people of determination and ensuring that they are integrated into the community. These sentiments are represented at the very core of our brand, as Serving Society with Superior Quality is our heritage and mission and we are committed to embracing our responsibility to future generations both in the UAE and across the region as a whole.”

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Special Olympics World Games Abu Dhabi 2019 is an integral part of local, national and regional plans to expand opportunities for people of determination in line with Abu Dhabi and the UAE’s shared vision of a unified and inclusive society. The event is set to be the most unified Games in the 50-year history of the Special Olympics movement, with inclusion of people of determination with intellectual disabilities in every aspect of the event. Over 7,500 athletes and 3,000 coaches representing more than 176 countries are participating in 24 officially sanctioned Olympic-style sports in venues throughout Abu Dhabi.
