MJB win contract to install two off-base cooling systems in Libya
26th July, 2010
MJB won the contract to install two off-base cooling systems and associated plant equipment in the remote Amal field in the Sahara desert. The Client is a joint venture company between the National Oil Corporation of Libya and Petro-Canada.
Due to the age of the two gas turbines that were installed at Amal Field, the existing diesel engines used as starting devices were obsolete. The Client, following MJB's advice, decided to also upgrade the inefficient and maintenance intensive cooling systems of the gas turbines by installing up to date off-skid systems.
MJB designed, built and installed the two Off-Base cooling systems, two new starting diesels, a black start diesel complete with self contained enclosure and all associated paperwork and cabling. All panels were designed to interface with the current and any future control system. The project involved extensive coordination in the engineering team based in Dubai and our support company PCSI in the UK. The project was labour intensive from the beginning and although there were some redesign issues due to change in specification MJB's engineering support team were extremely flexible in producing a successful end result.
The challenge didn't end with the engineering blueprint - MJB's field engineers then had to ensure that the end result was successfully transferred from CAD to site.
