OEL-Apix: Demolition of Beverage Production Site
19th May, 2010
OEL-Apix Consulting recently won a new contract to provide Consultancy Services to Heineken at its Berkshire production plant in Reading, UK.
The production site, in operation since 1979 and the largest of its kind in the UK, witnessed its last canned drinks leave the production line on 31st March 2010 and a lengthy and detailed programme of works has now started to decommission and demolish the overall site, ready for sale and new development of the site.
In the UK, under the Construction Design & Management Regulations 2007, it is a legal requirement that for any large scale construction or demolition project a detailed Health & Safety Plan is drawn up and that certain parties or "Duty Holders" are appointed to ensure the smooth running of the project and maintain strong health and safety systems to prevent accidents. An important Duty Holder is that of the CDM-Co-ordinator - the role being undertaken by OEL-Apix Consulting.
Asgeir Nilsen, OEL-Apix Training & Consultancy Manager comments, "We are delighted to win this prestigious contract which highlights the expertise of our team and the faith that Heineken have in our services.
In 2008/09 we won a Tender to perform the same role on a smaller project at their Berkshire facility, when a large amount of redundant equipment was cut up and removed from the plant. This was done successfully, without any accident, within the specified timescale, and whilst the main site remained operational.
During the project we will be able to highlight some of the tasks involved during the role of a CDM co-coordinator."
